CoverGirl x Star Wars | Lipstick Swatches

Oh, happy day!  The CoverGirl x Star Wars Lipsticks that I have been waiting for for weeks are finally in my possession.  Fun story real quick:  I was expecting to have these in my hands on Force Friday, but apparently they only were on sale online on Force Friday and then everything started getting mailed sporadically.  I got my mascara almost immediately but the lipsticks (at least the ones that I wanted) were on backorder.

Not all was lost, however, because Jon bought me an adorable tiny Chewbacca on Force Friday so huzzah!

So now that I have all of the pieces from the collection that I covet (for now mwahahaha), I wanted to share them with you guys since swatches seem to be few and far between!

If you aren't aware of how this collection works, they broke it up into the light side and the dark side.  Most of the products you can guess which side they come from.  The cool thing is that they have the light side mascara (waterproof) and the dark side mascara (regular).  Each mascara tube has a quote printed on the side that reflects the side that they are on.  There are 10 different quotes so it could get a little ridiculous on my end.  I'm not too concerned with collecting all the light side ones but the dark side ones must be mine!

Going into this collection, I was going to buy everything.  I managed to limit myself online, but I'm sure once the stores start getting everything in it's going to be a different story.

There are six lipstick colors to choose from, but I'm in a purple phase so I went with these two.  They don't have names, which is kind of lame considering all of the options out there, so we have #20 (lilac) and #50 (burgundy plum).

The quote on my mascara says "Indeed you are powerful".  Um, yes please.  That is the perfect way to get my day off to the best start.  Yes, mascara, I am powerful.  Thank you!

The mascara isn't a new mascara, just a different packaging of the already existing Super Sizer Mascara.  I'm not ready to dig into this one since I'm loving the mascara I'm using at the moment and I don't want to dry this one up before I even get a chance to use it.

The lipsticks, on the other hand, we can jump right into!  So let's do it!

First up is #20.  I think I'm kind of in love with this lipstick.  It is so pretty!

This is a frost-finished lipstick, which I'm usually not a huge fan of, but there's some really pretty duochrome going on.  The lipstick is crazy comfortable and really easy to put on.

Our dark lipstick friend, also known as #50, is a bit of a different story.  I like it, but it's super high maintenance.  Initially, I just tried to put it on like a normal lipstick.  Usually, I'm wearing matte dark lipsticks that have a drier formula that doesn't move around on my lips so much.  This lipstick, however, is a cream formula and it likes to slip and slide all over the place which ends up making the application look super uneven.

It looks okay in the picture, but in person the unevenness was bothering me.  I took it off and then thought maybe I could mute my lips out with concealer and then try doing some layers and blot between.  Upon taking it off, I discovered that this color stains the crap out of your lips.  Not that it looks bad, mind you, but it stains.  It gives you that just ate a Popsicle look.

So then I started covering my lips with concealer, which ended up giving me another really pretty lip look.  I guess it looks kind of like a Barbie pink type color, but I dug it.

I finally got on some of the lipstick.  I put on one layer and blotted, but it looked a little sheerer than I wanted it to.  So another layer, another blot and we were getting somewhere.

Three layers and a blot and I think think that was my sweet spot.  A little touch-up with concealer around the lips to get some of the feathering under control and we were done.  Finally.

So, if you're looking for a lipstick that looks really pretty after a super long time of applying it, this is the lipstick for you!  I will definitely be using it but not on a day-to-day basis.  This will be more of a weekend-when-I have-a-lot-of-time kind of lipstick.

I did try to use a lip brush with this also but I found that it just ended up moving the product around more than it laid it down, so I would advise not using a lip brush on this.  It won't help.

Also, my editor decided to stop by while I was swatching to make sure I was staying on task.
