Disney Treasures Unboxing | Festival of Friends

Hello, friends!  I hope that you are having a lovely day.  If not, don't worry!  This unboxing is sure to cheer you up!

In case you aren't familiar with Disney Treasures, it is the newest subscription box brought to us by Funko!  It is a bi-monthly box that is full of Disney goodies, both from the movies and the parks!  I, for one, love that they include park-related products because I absolutely love the parks.  If you aren't a fan of them or aren't overly familiar with them, you still will enjoy the box!  

This month's theme was Festival of Friends, and our preview Pop was a flying Dumbo with Timothy riding in his hat.  This is typical with the Funko boxes, as they usually want to lure you in with something!  So let's see what all was inside!

As with all Funko boxes, when you open the box you will find a patch and a pin.  What I love about this box is that the pins are like any Disney pins you would find in the parks, complete with the Mickey Mouse backer!  So if you are a pin collector, these will fit perfectly.  You can see that this box's pin features Thumper, and our patch features Piglet!  Another cool thing with the patches is that once they go through their first full annual cycle, the patches will all fit together!  It's great for people like me who have no idea what to do with the patches.  I'll probably mount them in a shadowbox or something!

I. LOVE. THIS.  As you probably know, this is Woody from Toy Story!  This seems to be a trend with these boxes, as in the last box we received a similar item that featured a park ride-related tin with a little figure from the ride inside.  The tin features the super fun Toy Story Midway Mania ride in Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios and Disney California Adventure!  I think I've only ridden this once, but I had a really fun time on it!

I love the style of this Woody as well, as he fits right in with the Funko Disney Princess blind box series, as well as the Harry Potter blind box series.  They're just all so cute with their little blushing cheeks!  

This Pluto Pop is absolutely adorable, isn't he?  I love his little cocked ear!  I've been meaning to pick up the Mickey and Minnie Pop's for a while now, but I will definitely have to get them soon so Pluto has someone to hang out with!  This is the first time that Pluto has appeared in Funko form, and hopefully not the last!

And last, but certainly not least, is this adorable Dumbo Pop with Timothy!  He comes on a clear base so it looks like he is flying.  I don't think that the base comes out, which is fine since I don't know that he would stand on his own anyway.  But seriously.  How adorable is he!?  I'll be honest in that I never liked the Dumbo movie.  I am 31 years old and have been scared of circuses and clowns since I can remember.  For that reason, I was never really able to enjoy that movie, but that doesn't mean that I don't love Dumbo! I mean, how can you not love this little guy?!

Loot Crate Wizarding World Unboxing | May 2017

 

It's that time again, and I'm SO EXCITED!!  Loot Crate's bi-monthly Wizarding World box is the only licensed Harry Potter box out there, and they never fail to disappoint.  This month's theme was centered around the Dark Arts, and as a Slytherin I was all about that. 

Usually there is a little Muggle Worthy sticker that goes here, a la Newt Scamander's briefcase, but this month we got this fantastic Dark Mark sticker.  I guess the nod to Newt wouldn't exactly be appropriate this month, as Hufflepuff's are generally the sunshine and light of the world!  I did the best that I could to keep this sticker pristine.  It's definitely a keeper!

And then the inside of the box happened.  AAAAAHHHHHH.  I am in love!!  As I've mentioned before, I'm totally one of those people who turn these boxes inside-out and keep them, and this one is certainly no exception.  It's that perfect fine line of creepy and cool, and I'm the biggest fan!  I love it so, so much.

I will say that I was genuinely so excited for just the actual box itself.  Not even faking it or being over expressive about it.  I really love that they go the extra mile with these to make them special and fit the theme!

But enough with my blabbering about boxes.  You're here for what's inside the box, right?  Let's take a look!

First up, we have the t-shirt!  Excuse the cat hair.  Macaroni made her home on it as soon as it came out of the box, which is fine since I'm honestly not crazy about this shirt.  I'm usually a villains fan, especially when it comes to Harry Potter villains, but Percival Graves didn't do much for me.  The text on the shirt reads "We've lived in the shadows for far too long."  If nothing else, it will be a good night shirt or workout shirt, or if Macaroni has her way a cat bed.

Next up is this pretty awesome pencil case!  This has Sirius Black's Azkaban number on there, and I think it's pretty cool!  So far this seems to be a lot of people's favorite thing from this box.  I may use it in my purse since I have my cool Have You Seen This Wizard compact mirror that I received in an old Fandom of the Month box.  I can have a whole Azkaban themed makeup situation!

This one is my favorite item from this box, even though I don't know that I'll use it a ton.  We received a stationary set all based around the Chamber of Secrets!  It included these cool black cards with the door to the Chamber embossed on the front, as well as black envelopes, and this cool wax seal set!  I've never tried doing a wax seal before but I'm looking forward to giving it a try!  Plus I also enjoy that I can use my white gel pens on this stationary.  It's going to look pretty badass!

 

 

Speaking of the Chamber of Secrets, our pin for the month is this cool Tom Riddle's Diary pin that has already been destroyed for you!  No need to worry about Tom trying to get you to kill your friends.  And just incase he's still able to try, you have a Basilisk fang handy to kill the diary!  But in all seriousness, I think this is a really neat pin.  It's definitely different and reminds me of something you'd find at Universal Studios!

 

 

The last item is another fan favorite!  We got replicas of Umbridge's cat plates!  As a cat person, I am SO STOKED on these.  Seriously.  My Aunt Ginny gets this box as well and sent me her's since she didn't see herself using them, so I have eight cat plates to hang up!  Crazy cat lady status:  Reached (as if I hadn't already).  The only thing I wish is that they would have made them lenticular so they looked like they were moving, but it certainly doesn't ruin them for me!  I love them so much!

Funko Disney Treasures Unboxing | Pirates Cove

Hello, friends!  Long time no talk!  But worry not, I'll be back to normal from here on out!  Which is good because I kind of feel like there is so much awesome going on right now, including this amazing box!

Back at the beginning of the year, I decided I was going to quit Collector Corps.  I was getting annoyed with the customer service and the theming of the boxes, so I decided to move on.  No sooner did I make that decision then did I see that they were doing a Disney box.  Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in!  I'm not going to be able to turn down a Disney box, so I jumped in feet first and have been so excited to receive the first box!  Let's take a look inside!

As with all Funko boxes, you receive a patch and a pin.  What I love about these patches is that they are all going to fit together around a giant patch that comes in the last box of this cycle!  I think that's such a great idea.  I don't know what to do with the patches that we receive so with these at least I can get them matted and hang them up!  And then, of course, is the adorable Pirate Mickey pin.  I absolutely love this!  They are on-par with the quality of all Disney pins, which is an extra plus if you are a pin collector!  And then in the middle is the pin you receive if you pay for the annual subscription as opposed to the month-to-month, which is known as being a Disney Treasures Pioneer!

One of the coolest things that this box promises is that they're not only going to bring you merchandise from the Disney movies, but also the parks!  I think you're hard-pressed to find a Disney fan who doesn't love both, so that's such a perfect combination.  This combination is highlighted perfectly in this little tin!  Jack Sparrow was hidden inside this absolutely adorable Pirates of the Caribbean ride-inspired tin and I am OB.SESSED.  This might be my favorite part of the box.  No lie!  The tin illustrates some of the more famous scenes from the ride on all four sides.  How cute!  And the Jack Sparrow is just the cutest little guy, is he not? 

Next is possibly one of the cutest POP's ever, and that is saying something.  How adorable is this Smee!?  I'm completely in love with him.  His little pot belly, his pink nose, his glasses.  He is just perfection!  And for those of you who are in-box collectors and love displaying those sticker boxes, they have a super shiny gold sticker on the box.  What more would you expect from Disney, right?

And the last collectible in this box is this Dorbz Ridez of the Wicked Wench Captain.  What better way to salute the 50 year anniversary of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride than to pay homage to one of the most awe-inspiring first moments of any ride at any theme park.  If you've been to any of the Disney parks here in the States, then you know how amazing it is the first time (or any time!) you find yourself stuck in the middle of a battle, with a fort on your right and this ship, the Wicked Wench, on your left.  Splashes of water blow up all around you while the amazing score from the movies blasts throughout the room.  I think any Disney fan would be happy to add this guy to their collection!

I love this little map that tells you all about the box!  But not only that, on the back is a map that looks to plot out all of the box themes for the year!  Next up is the Festival of Friends, which looks to be featuring Dumbo.  To be honest, that movie freaks me out (I am NOT a circus person), but I do think that Dumbo is adorable, so I will definitely be happy to add whatever they give me to my collection!  After Festival of Friends, it looks like it will be Ever After Castle, Snowflake Mountain, Haunted Forest, and Tiny Town.  I'm so excited to see what else this box has in store!

Unboxing | Marvel Collector Corps Superhero Showdown

It's that time again for another Marvel Collector Corps unboxing!  I feel like it's been a while since we got just a "generic" box that wasn't themed around a movie or property, and I didn't really know what to expect with this one.  February's box was themed as Superhero Showdown, showcasing some of the classic Marvel rivalries.  Let's take a look inside!

As always, the first thing you see when you open up a Collector Corps box are the patch and pin. We have an Ironman v. Ultron patch and a Hulk/Red Hulk pin.  I still have yet to find something to do with these, so if you have any ideas help a girl out!

Next up is the t-shirt, which showcases one of the more popular and well known rivalries in Spiderman and Green Goblin.  Of course they have been Pop-ified!  It is designed to look like a comic book cover and is pretty cute.  It will more than likely go in my workout clothes collection.

We always receive a variant cover, and this month's is Inhumans vs. X-Men.  I'm not reading this one and don't know that I'm terribly interested.  I generally just add these to one of my boxes of comics.  It's rare that I actually ever read them.  I think the only one that I read and ended up really liking and getting every month was Black Panther, which I believe we got in the Civil War box.

Now these guys I like!  How cute are they!?  They are (obviously) Captain America and Red Skull.  I figured they were going to be represented in this box and I'm happy that they made them into the Pint Size Heroes!  I love this new line of bitty guys that Funko makes.

Last up are the exclusive Pops, which ended up being a dual pack of DareDevil and Bullseye.  The DareDevil is an air-born one that comes with a clear stand for display purposes.  I know there's a lot of people who don't like these jumping ones much, but I think they're pretty cool.  They're fun to style.  I'll be honest that I'm not overly familiar with DareDevil and his villains.  I've watched the first season on Netflix and half of the second season, so I'm unsure of whether he is in the show or not, but I think the Pops are pretty cool!

And that is it for the February box.  I think I mentioned before that I'm giving up my Founders subscription, as there are enough months that are underwhelming and I just have no desire to display anyone that I get.  I'll be going more on a month-by-month basis.  The next box in April is Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to get that.  I'm sure there's going to be something Groot in there that I'm going to need and I'll be mad at myself for not getting it!

Of course, once I had come to terms with the fact that I would no longer be receiving a Funko box they announced that they would be doing a Disney box.  So naturally, I have subscribed to that one.  I think this one is better suited for me.  While I really do like Marvel, I feel like that universe is so vast that I don't know a lot of people in it, or don't really care much about them.  With Disney, I generally like pretty much everything.  While I may not love a certain movie, I'm certainly never going to turn anything Disney down.  So I'm excited to get in on this one!   Subscribe to the Disney Treasures box by I'm going to assume the end of March (it doesn't give a cut-off on the website) to receive the Pirates Cove box!  This features an exclusive Smee Pop, as well as a Pirates of the Caribbean park ride themed Dorbz Ride!  They both look absolutely adorable.  The boxes also include other Disney and Disney Parks merchandise that is exclusive to the box.  I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!

Battle of the Boxes | Harry Potter Edition

Hello!  And sorry for the absence.  I got a new computer so I was working on getting everything switched over, and adapting to it as it's my first time having a Mac, but we are back in business!  And I wanted to come back with a new series I'm thinking about doing:  Battle of the Boxes!

It's no secret that there is a subscription box for pretty much anything you can think of these days, but not every subscription box is created equal.  I'm going to break down two boxes and let you know which I think is best, but also give you enough details to decide for yourself.  This isn't going to be a super regular thing, as that can get quite costly, but a couple times a year I'll definitely be giving it a go.  For the first edition, I thought it would be natural for me to start with two that I'm already subscribed to:  Geek Gear's World of Wizardry and Loot Crate's J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World.

The Basics

I have been subscribed to the World of Wizardry box since the summer, and at the time, it was the only option available.  I enjoyed it, but when Loot Crate announced at New York Comic Con that they would be coming out with the official box to represent all of J.K. Rowling's wizarding properties, I was hard pressed to pass this up.

The World of Wizardry box is by Geek Gear, which is a company based in the U.K.  Obviously this means that if you are living in the States like myself, you'll be paying a little more to have the box delivered to you.  The box is £19.99 per month, which obviously fluctuates outside of the U.K. depending on the conversion rate of the currency.  For this reason, I go with a three month plan, which is £56.97.  That way I lock in on one conversion rate for a few months.  If you really want to go all-in, you can get this for 6 months for £107.94, or 12 months for £203.88.  This is a monthly subscription box and they usually ship between the 20-25 of each month.  The only downside with their shipping is that we don't receive tracking numbers.  Especially with things coming from overseas, I like to be able to know where my package is and when I'm going to receive it.  

As I mentioned earlier, J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World box is the official box for Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts merchandise and is ran through Loot Crate, which was to the best of my knowledge one of the first geeky subscription boxes out there.  I was subscribed to the original crate for a while, but unsubscribed only because the boxes were so vague and I was getting things from properties that I didn't know anything about.  Everything in this box will obviously be from the Wizarding World we all love!  This is a bi-monthly box and is $34.99 (plus shipping and handling), however they also offer bundle packages if you want to pay for several months in advance.  

So that's all of the boring stuff.  Let's get onto the unboxings!

World of Wizardry

The "format" of the boxes is generally the same:  you tend to get some posters, there's always a t-shirt, something for the home, and then a couple other goodies.  The posters are generally pretty cool, and they have also been sneaking in some original art the past couple months.  The last two I didn't love, but I really love the one this month with Harry's patronus.  I'm super excited about the Slytherin pillowcase!  I love the design, which we actually got a print of a couple months ago, and I will happy to have it somewhere on display in my house.  

I'm unsure about the jelly beans, as they don't say whether or not they're Bertie Bott's and I don't play around with those!  The socks pair well with the gloves and hat we received last month, and the t-shirt is actually a design that we had on a sticker that I got in one of my first boxes.

One thing that I think this box does perfectly is house-specific merchandise.  While both boxes ask you to choose your house when you sign up (you don't have to and you'll receive random houses every month), this one has house-specific stuff in every box.  Granted, the Loot Crate box is fairly new (the first box was in November), there hasn't been anything house-specifc yet, although the theme of the next box (March) is house pride, so one would think there will be house merchandise in there.

J.K. Rowling's World of Wizardry

I love the shirts we get.  Just the quality alone is lovely, but the designs have been great too. I'm surprised they went with Snape this month, as he's a pretty polarizing character, but I am Team Snape so I shan't complain!

I really love the pocket watch we got.  I think the design of it is really beautiful, on the inside and out. The time turner isn't my favorite, as it doesn't properly twirl and there's no sand in the middle.  The World of Wizardry box has done the time turner quite a few times and I'm a much bigger fan of that one.  I think the prophecy button is neat and will hang well with some of my other buttons at work!

The socks are super cute, although they seem like they're going to be a little big on me (these are for size 10-13 and I'm a 7 1/2).  And then of course, there's Sirius!  We seem to be getting a Funko in every box and they have four or five that you can get.  I just wish they would start doing exclusives because I am totally one of those people who buy them all up once I see them in stores.  I already had Sirius, and I received a Niffler last box, which I also already had.  The Niffler is hanging out with me at work and I gave Sirius to my friend Noelle, so it all works out.  Hopefully there are some exclusives in the future, though!

So, now it's up to you to let me know which you like better!  Personally, I think I'm more on Team Loot Crate.  While you definitely get less stuff than the other box, I think it's of higher quality.  Plus I generally don't really know what to do with most of the stuff in the World of Wizardry box.  But that's just me.  Tell me in the comments below which one you'd rather be subscribed to!

Marvel Collector Corps Unboxing | December 2016 | X-Men

When this box was announced, I was so excited.  I've mentioned before that the X-Men is one of my first geeky memories as my brother and I were obsessed with the cartoon that was on in the early 90's.  We would go to Pizza Hut to get the VHS copies of the episodes and we would be up early enough to catch it on Saturday mornings.  Storm was my very first favorite superhero (and still holding strong as #1), and my Cyclops hatred was deep-seeded from when I was a little girl.  I have been holding out for this box since I joined and I didn't think it would happen.  They always seemed to align themselves with the Marvel Studio movie releases and not so much the Sony ones, which did change with the Spiderman box.  But regardless, we have an X-Men box and I'm stoked.  Let's see what's inside!

As with all Collector Corps boxes, we received a patch and a pin.  Obviously I'm excited to have a Storm patch!  I don't do much with these but I might put it up in my cubicle at work with my Harry Potter patches.  And then there is a Magneto pin, which is equally cool.  I've always enjoyed Magneto so I'm happy to add this to my little pin collection!

Another always in the Collector Corp boxes are variant covers of a comic series.  I read X-Men '92 and another X-Men book which I am woefully behind on and don't remember which version it is.  I know there are several.  It's the one with Storm in it, naturally, and she is also in Black Panther, another one that I am behind on.  If we're being honest, I'm behind on all of my comics.  I need to get caught up STAT!

This is hands down my favorite shirt that I've received so far.  It actually seems to run a little smaller than the ones that we've received, which I'm not going to complain about!  And I always find that their shirts are really nice quality and super soft.  Love this so, so much!

I love this figure so much, too!  This is one of their Rockcandy lines of figures and it is Mystique in her classic outfit.  She's so beautiful.  I love these styles of figurines.  John gets the DC version of the Funko box and he got a TV Supergirl Rockcandy figure that is equally cute.  I'll definitely be displaying her with my collection!

You can't have an X-Men box without Wolverine, and this one is pretty adorable on his motorcycle.  He's tricky to actually balance on there, but eventually he gets himself situated.  To be honest, between the t-shirt and the Mystique figure, Wolverine is my least favorite, but he's still pretty cool.  I just feel like we've been on Wolverine overload with this new reboot.  Regardless, I do like Wolverine so he will be hanging out with Mystique and my already-owned Storm somewhere in my collection!
