Unboxing | Marvel Collector Corps Superhero Showdown

It's that time again for another Marvel Collector Corps unboxing!  I feel like it's been a while since we got just a "generic" box that wasn't themed around a movie or property, and I didn't really know what to expect with this one.  February's box was themed as Superhero Showdown, showcasing some of the classic Marvel rivalries.  Let's take a look inside!

As always, the first thing you see when you open up a Collector Corps box are the patch and pin. We have an Ironman v. Ultron patch and a Hulk/Red Hulk pin.  I still have yet to find something to do with these, so if you have any ideas help a girl out!

Next up is the t-shirt, which showcases one of the more popular and well known rivalries in Spiderman and Green Goblin.  Of course they have been Pop-ified!  It is designed to look like a comic book cover and is pretty cute.  It will more than likely go in my workout clothes collection.

We always receive a variant cover, and this month's is Inhumans vs. X-Men.  I'm not reading this one and don't know that I'm terribly interested.  I generally just add these to one of my boxes of comics.  It's rare that I actually ever read them.  I think the only one that I read and ended up really liking and getting every month was Black Panther, which I believe we got in the Civil War box.

Now these guys I like!  How cute are they!?  They are (obviously) Captain America and Red Skull.  I figured they were going to be represented in this box and I'm happy that they made them into the Pint Size Heroes!  I love this new line of bitty guys that Funko makes.

Last up are the exclusive Pops, which ended up being a dual pack of DareDevil and Bullseye.  The DareDevil is an air-born one that comes with a clear stand for display purposes.  I know there's a lot of people who don't like these jumping ones much, but I think they're pretty cool.  They're fun to style.  I'll be honest that I'm not overly familiar with DareDevil and his villains.  I've watched the first season on Netflix and half of the second season, so I'm unsure of whether he is in the show or not, but I think the Pops are pretty cool!

And that is it for the February box.  I think I mentioned before that I'm giving up my Founders subscription, as there are enough months that are underwhelming and I just have no desire to display anyone that I get.  I'll be going more on a month-by-month basis.  The next box in April is Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to get that.  I'm sure there's going to be something Groot in there that I'm going to need and I'll be mad at myself for not getting it!

Of course, once I had come to terms with the fact that I would no longer be receiving a Funko box they announced that they would be doing a Disney box.  So naturally, I have subscribed to that one.  I think this one is better suited for me.  While I really do like Marvel, I feel like that universe is so vast that I don't know a lot of people in it, or don't really care much about them.  With Disney, I generally like pretty much everything.  While I may not love a certain movie, I'm certainly never going to turn anything Disney down.  So I'm excited to get in on this one!   Subscribe to the Disney Treasures box by I'm going to assume the end of March (it doesn't give a cut-off on the website) to receive the Pirates Cove box!  This features an exclusive Smee Pop, as well as a Pirates of the Caribbean park ride themed Dorbz Ride!  They both look absolutely adorable.  The boxes also include other Disney and Disney Parks merchandise that is exclusive to the box.  I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!

You best believe I will be back next month with the unboxing of that one, so stay tuned if you're unsure about that box and want to see what it's all about before subscribing!

Did you received this Collector Corps box?  What did you think?  Are you equally excited about the Disney Treasures box?  Because I'm pretty much jumping out of my skin about it.  Let's chat in the comments!

Marvel Collector Corps Unboxing | December 2016 | X-Men

When this box was announced, I was so excited.  I've mentioned before that the X-Men is one of my first geeky memories as my brother and I were obsessed with the cartoon that was on in the early 90's.  We would go to Pizza Hut to get the VHS copies of the episodes and we would be up early enough to catch it on Saturday mornings.  Storm was my very first favorite superhero (and still holding strong as #1), and my Cyclops hatred was deep-seeded from when I was a little girl.  I have been holding out for this box since I joined and I didn't think it would happen.  They always seemed to align themselves with the Marvel Studio movie releases and not so much the Sony ones, which did change with the Spiderman box.  But regardless, we have an X-Men box and I'm stoked.  Let's see what's inside!

As with all Collector Corps boxes, we received a patch and a pin.  Obviously I'm excited to have a Storm patch!  I don't do much with these but I might put it up in my cubicle at work with my Harry Potter patches.  And then there is a Magneto pin, which is equally cool.  I've always enjoyed Magneto so I'm happy to add this to my little pin collection!

Another always in the Collector Corp boxes are variant covers of a comic series.  I read X-Men '92 and another X-Men book which I am woefully behind on and don't remember which version it is.  I know there are several.  It's the one with Storm in it, naturally, and she is also in Black Panther, another one that I am behind on.  If we're being honest, I'm behind on all of my comics.  I need to get caught up STAT!

This is hands down my favorite shirt that I've received so far.  It actually seems to run a little smaller than the ones that we've received, which I'm not going to complain about!  And I always find that their shirts are really nice quality and super soft.  Love this so, so much!

I love this figure so much, too!  This is one of their Rockcandy lines of figures and it is Mystique in her classic outfit.  She's so beautiful.  I love these styles of figurines.  John gets the DC version of the Funko box and he got a TV Supergirl Rockcandy figure that is equally cute.  I'll definitely be displaying her with my collection!

You can't have an X-Men box without Wolverine, and this one is pretty adorable on his motorcycle.  He's tricky to actually balance on there, but eventually he gets himself situated.  To be honest, between the t-shirt and the Mystique figure, Wolverine is my least favorite, but he's still pretty cool.  I just feel like we've been on Wolverine overload with this new reboot.  Regardless, I do like Wolverine so he will be hanging out with Mystique and my already-owned Storm somewhere in my collection!

Let me know what your favorite thing from this box was!  And who is your favorite X-Men character?  Tell me in the comments down below!

Marvel Collector Corps Unboxing | October 2016 Doctor Strange

I'll admit it.  I don't know a whole lot about Doctor Strange, but if we're talking between friends (which we are), if you put Marvel and Benedict Cumberbatch together, it's going to be tough not to lure me in.  This movie looks trippy.  I don't really know what to expect from it but I'm looking forward to it!  Needless to say, when I saw that the October Collector Corps box was going to be Doctor Strange, I was pretty stoked.  Especially when it meant getting a box with Benedict's face smack dab on the front.

As with all Collector Corps boxes, you're greeted with a patch and a pin when you open up the box.  The inside of this box is also pretty neat.  I've definitely taken to keeping these boxes (I store my comics in them).  They're just too pretty to get rid of!

We also always get a comic book.  Not sure that I'm necessarily going to jump right into this one.  Like I said,  don't know much about Doctor Strange and at this point, being so close to the movie, I'm kind of looking forward to just going into the movie a little blind and learning as I go along.  Maybe if my interest is piqued then I'll dig into it.

Next up was the shirt, which is pretty cute!  I'll definitely be wearing this when I go see the movie!

We got this adorable mug of his face!  I have a Groot mug like this that I use all the time so I'm only too happy to add another one to my mug collection!  The only downside on these is that they aren't dishwasher or microwave safe so you have to be a little careful with them.  There have been more than one occasion when I almost threw my Groot mug in the dishwasher, which would be devastating!

And last but certainly not least is this awesome levitating Pop!  I think this might be one of my favorites that we ever have gotten.  Not only does he look like he floats (and in a different way than other Pops! that float or jump), but he is glittery!!!  I tried to capture that but was having a tough time.  But I love it.  I'm sure it will all make 100% more sense to me once I see the movie, but for now I'm just enjoying his glittery floating self.

Did you get this box?  Let me know what you think of it in the comments below!  What was your favorite piece?

Girl Bosses In Pop Culture | The Mighty Thor

As a girl, I'm absolutely thrilled to start seeing a whole lot more girl bosses popping up in my favorite geeky shows and comic books.  Granted, ladies have been ruling in the comic book universe for quite a while.  Storm has been my hands down favorite super hero ever since I was little.  I grew up on the X-Men cartoon and stealing my brother's X-Men comics.

I wanted to start a series where I highlight some of my favorite ladies that have been on my radar lately and tip my cap to their awesomeness.  I figured I would start with one of the more controversial ones because, sadly, people can't just seem to get over the fact that a lady took the place of a superhero that was always a man.  We are, of course, talking about Thor.

I will admit to not knowing much about Thor before the movies started coming out.  John and I ended up going to see that instead of a RomCom I wanted to see that had been getting awful reviews, and I was really happy to have seen it!  For one, I loved that there wasn't really an origin story.  I don't know why but I hate origin stories.  I feel like I want to blame it on Spiderman and the constant rehashings of how he became Spiderman, even though I think every person on Earth who never even picked up a comic book in their lives know how Peter Parker became Spiderman.  But I digress.  Thor's a God.  He's worthy of the hammer.  Simple.  Cut and dry.  I like it.  And, if we're being totally honest, Chris Hemsworth didn't hurt the appeal of the movie.

I wasn't interested enough to read the comic books, however.  That is until they announced that Thor was going to be a lady.  And it shattered the comic book world pretty hard.  Until then, not many of the "main stream" superheroes had females completely taking over the character.  Now it's pretty commonplace, which is awesome, but I'm pretty sure Marvel is still receiving some backlash.  Whether it's sexism or people just not really loving change or a mixed bag of the two, the letters column in The Mighty Thor got to be pretty discouraging.  They've gotten much better as the story has gone on, probably because it is an awesome effing story for a Thor of any gender, but it still kind of astounds me in this age that people would get so up in arms about something like this.  Thor has been the same since forever, and since when is updating a character a bad thing?  Plus, they leave it a little of a mystery as to what actually happened to Thor Odinson.

I also find it potentially a little tongue-in-cheek that Odin has such a shitfit over a girl being Thor as well.  I don't know if it's purposely a knock to the people flipping out over it or just a coincidence, but I'd like to think the former.

The comic itself is an absolute joy to read.  Like I said before, the story is really interesting, the writing is ensnaring and the art... can we talk about the art??  It is so beautiful.  There are several different storylines happening in this run, one of them being with the elves.  I think it's kind of tough to capture the effervescence that I always assume elves have, but they nail it perfectly.  They are so beautiful.  And Thor is gorgeously drawn and not at all sexualized, which is a treat.  Heck, there's even a character in here called Exterminatrix who isn't even really all that sexualized.  I mean, she's clearly a dominatrix who carries a whip and enjoys torturing people, but from looking at old versions of her, this one is quite tame.  I adore her entire outfit, actually!  She has a cape!  Which is obviously a total novel thing in comic books...

ANYWAY!  If you're looking for a series to get in to, I would seriously recommend this one.  The first run of this is already in trade form and that run deals with everyone trying to figure out who this new Thor is.  If you aren't someone who has followed Thor before this run, I think this is a perfect place to pick it up.  If you're also able to get your hands on the short run of Thors during last year's Secret Wars run, that would compliment the first run nicely.  Definitely do read the first run of The Mighty Thor before you read Thors or else everything will be spoiled for you.  And yes, if you're wondering, Loki is in this version.  The God of Mischief never rests!

Are you reading The Mighty Thor?  What do you think?  Let's talk about it in the comments below!  And let me know who some of your favorite pop culture girl bosses are!  I'll be sharing mine throughout the series.  And if you're feeling like it, share it and start your own girl boss conversation with your friends!

Marvel Collector Corps Unboxing | December 2015

Guardians of the Galaxy is obviously one of my favorite Marvel movies.  I think Guardians of the Galaxy is one of everyone's favorite Marvel movies.  When I saw that the December Marvel Collector Corps was going to be themed around Guardians, I was so excited but this box far exceeded my expectations!

Marvel Collector Corps Unboxing

As always, we get a crazy awesome box with a patch and a pin being the first things you see when you open it.

And now for the goodness under the flap!

Marvel Collector Corps Unboxing

I LOVE IT ALL!!!!!!!

Marvel Collector Corps Unboxing

I really love variant covers and I love that we get them in our boxes.  This is hands down my favorite one that we've received so far.  Look at how adorable they are!  I love the vibrancy.  And, of course, this little Rocket!

Marvel Collector Corps Unboxing

He is actually an ornament (he has a little red string on top of his head) and he's actually pretty heavy.  I thought I could just stand him up and keep him on my desk since my boyfriend also gets this box and we won't need to have two sets of these on our tree, but it's not looking like he's going to stand on his own.  I'll find some way to display him!

And Rocket wouldn't be Rocket without his BFF!  He is SO tiny and SO adorable!  And next to Groot is a super cool Starlord ceramic mug that I love!  He is the perfect size for lots of hot cocoa with lots of marshmallows and whipped cream!

This is the first wearable that we got that wasn't a t-shirt and I love this!  It is crazy soft and super adorable.  AND THE OTHER SIDE LOOKS LIKE THIS:

Can you even?!  Because I can't.  I absolutely love love LOVE this box!  I love them all, but there's something that I love about the practicality of this box that appeals to me.  Not that I don't love getting the figures but I love that I can actually use everything in this box and it's not just going to sit there on a shelf.  I am a HUGE fan.

Please tell me you got this box!  If you didn't, you're really missing out!  Tell me all about how much you love your box (or hate it maybe) in the comments below!  And tell me who your favorite Guardian is.  I'm a Groot girl myself, but I also love Gamora because she's a total badass.

Marvel Collector Corps Unboxing | October 2015 - Villains

I have been so looking forward to this box since they announced that the theme was going to be Villains.  I had so many visions of Loki dancing in my head because he obviously had to be in this box in some capacity.  Was I right?  Keep reading to find out!

Before I get into the unboxing, I will just say that I think this box still has some figuring out to do.  I love this box so much but if another box had some of the same inconsistencies as this one does, I wouldn't be sticking around.  I never received any tracking information or notification of any kind that my box had shipped.  I saw them post on Facebook that the tracking information was going out starting on a Thursday and that everyone should have theirs by Friday.  I checked my e-mail obsessively for the entire weekend and never received anything.  Neither did my friend Noelle at work and neither did one of the partners in my office who gets the box.  None of us, to this day, have received e-mail confirmation of tracking.

I happened to go onto the website and login to see if there was anything available for tracking and I stumbled upon tracking information there.  But every subscription service I belong to have figured this much out, this one hasn't.  However, I love this service so much that I can look past these errors.  So let's jump in!

I love the insides of these boxes!  They're so perfect and fancy.  As usual, we get a pin and a patch, this box features Red Skull and Green Goblin.

This is hands down my favorite shirt that we've gotten so far.  This is so cool!

Marvel Collector Corps Unboxing

I haven't looked through this yet so I don't know if this actually has something to do with zombies or if this is just a fancy variant cover.  I will definitely be checking it out soon!  I have a lot of comic book catching up to do before I get into this one.

Marvel Collector Corps Unboxing

We got this teeny, tiny baby Venom and he is so cute!  He can be a little figure guy or a keychain.

Marvel Collector Corps Unboxing

Aaaaahhh!!!  We got a Loki Dorbz!  And he is TOTALLY DORBZ!!  I was hoping for an actual POP of him but this is even better.  I can't even handle the cuteness!

And for our POP we got Morbius.  I admittedly didn't know who he was and had to Google him but I would say he is pretty appropriate for October and Halloween.

Like I said before, this box has its problems but I still think it's awesome.  The next box is coming in December and is Guardians of the Galaxy themed!  I can't wait to see what Groot adorableness is in this box!

Did you get the October Collector Corps box?  What did you think of it?
