Harry Potter Questionnaire

Happy September 1!  If you are a part of the wonderful fandom that is Harry Potter, you know that today is the day that the new and current students of Hogwarts board The Hogwarts Express and head off to that wonderful castle school.  If you're new, you find out what house you're in before pigging out on the most food you've ever seen in one place.  You get to hear the wise words of the headmaster, make some new friends and figure out your secret way to the common room you will call home.

In spirit of this happy day, I decided to do a Harry Potter Questionnaire that I have seen floating around on some other blogs that I follow.  I believe it originated at The Travelling Geek Show, or at least that's where everyone seems to be linking back to.  So let's get started!

1.  What is your favorite book?  Why?

Hands down, my favorite book is Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban.  Yes, Lupin is my favorite character, and yes, this is the book that he debuted in.  That might have just a little to do with it.  The main reason for me was because of the big reveal at the end with Sirius.  The book has so much more detail to it than the movie does and I just remember being so enthralled by everything that was going on.  I'm pretty sure I actually threw my book at one point, probably because I thought that Lupin was turning out to be bad, which I had been fearing since I started to like him.  It was such a twist for me and even when I'm re-reading the books and already know what's going to happen I still get so excited during the whole thing.

2.  What is your favorite film?  Why?

My favorite film is Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix, and honestly, I'm not entirely sure why it's my favorite.  Maybe because of Fred and George, maybe because of Snape's "obviously", maybe because of the shred of Lupin that I get in the beginning.  I enjoyed the book but it was difficult to get through because of the ~angst~ but the movie seems to cut that out and get to the good stuff.  I just find myself actually pulling out the BluRay and watching that one more than the others.

3.  What is your least favorite book?  Why?

Probably Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's (Philosopher's) Stone, because it was so simple and boring in comparison to the other ones, really.  The stories get so much more complex as Harry and crew get older and I like a complex story.  Obviously the first book had to set everything up and introduce you to this world, but I would definitely read all of the other books over this one any time.

4.  What is your least favorite film?  Why?

Again, going with Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone for all of the same reasons as above, plus everyone is so young and it's just so cheesy with the CGI and everything.  I'll watch it if it's on during the marathon on ABC Family, but I will never go out of my way to watch it on my own.

5.  If you had to hook up with any character who would it be?

I guess Ron?  Because of all his Ron-ness.

6.  Who is your favorite character?  Why?

LUUUUPIIIIN!!!  I love him to pieces.  He is so kind and so caring.  He has every right to be a bitter person and hate everyone because he is an outcast and treated like dirt because of what he is, but he doesn't.  He was a wonderful teacher, a loyal Order member, and a great friend.  He is just my heart and soul and the best.

7.  Who is your least favorite character?  Why?

Is it so cliché to say Umbridge?  She just was such a terrible human being and so easy to dislike.  There are a lot of villains and bad people in this series, but she is just the worst.  Voldemort is bad but he's one of those bad guys you kind of can't help but like.  Umbridge just has no redeeming qualities in her entire being.  She is just the worst.

Also, I don't like James Potter.  I understand that Snape wasn't the easiest person to get along with and that they would go back and forth with one another, but there's a certain way to react to that and James just seemed to treat Snape like such crape.  I love Snape, he is easily my favorite character after Lupin so I will defend him until the day I die, and what James did to him just wasn't right.

8.  What is your least favorite line?

I honestly can't say I have a least favorite line.  I've been sitting here thinking on it but there is nothing that I can think of.

9.  What would your patronus be?

I kind of feel like I can't answer this question because it seems like you don't get to pick your patronus, it picks you.  I took a quiz and got an otter, so I'll say that.

10.  If you could have the Resurrection Stone, the Invisibility Cloak or the Elder Wand, which one would you choose?

Invisibility Cloak all day every day.  I could just go out and do things without being bothered or looked at or talked to.  That thing is an introvert's dream.

11.  Which house would you be in?

When I took a couple quizzes before jumping in and taking the Pottermore quiz, I kept getting Gryffindor.  I was okay with it, but it just didn't seem right.  When I finally took the Pottermore quiz, I got Slytherin and all was right with the world.  That's where I would be and I would be happy and proud to be there.

12.  If you could meet any member of the cast, who would it be?

David Thewlis, who played Lupin.  Just so I could give him a hug and thank him for bringing such beautiful life to my favorite character.  Also, he seems like a lot of fun!

13.  If you were on the Quidditch team, which position would you play?

LOL I wouldn't be on the Quidditch team.  I would happily sit in the stands and watch.

14.  Were you happy with the ending?

I mean, yeah.  I could have done with less death but overall I figured it was all going to end okay.  It was such a complex ending and so many things had to fall into place and so many risks had to be taken.  It wasn't just like "Harry finally came face-to-face with Voldemort and he killed him and it was sunshine and rainbows and happiness".  I liked that there was some questioning and surprise to it.

15.  How much does Harry Potter mean to you?

I just got into Harry Potter last year and it already has just consumed me and became my favorite fandom.  It means a lot to me.  Even as an adult, there's so many lessons and so much to learn from the books.  I think it's impossible not to walk away from that series and not be changed in some way.  It also has kind of helped me embrace my personality and who I am a little more after I was sorted into Slytherin.  It's only had a positive effect on me.

What do you guys think?  Answer the questions in the comments below so we can discuss!  And for those of you heading off to Hogwarts, hope you didn't miss the train this morning!  Can't let the muggles see you in your flying car! :)
