Life & Blog Recap | August 2016

Oh summer, where have you gone?!  I don't think I'm going to complain too much, though.  We had a REALLY hot August so I'll be happy to have things start to cool down in September.  Plus, in typical basic white girl fashion, fall is my favorite season.  I love how crisp it gets, I love all of the pumpkin things, Hockey comes back, sweaters can be warn.  It's all just good things, right?  But in the meantime, let's take a look back at August!

Life Recap
Overall, August was a good month!  I was able to take a week off and get some stuff done around the house/stuff I'd been wanting to do for a while.  I bought myself a new DSLR camera, which I feel like I've been talking about for forever, but it made me so inspired to try to take my blog photography to a new level.  I'm still working on it, still trying to find my style, but I feel so much better about it than I have in a long while!

I also had the joy of finishing my first real knitting project, which felt so good.  I felt like I was working on that afghan for forever, even though it had only been about two months.  I was worried that I wouldn't get in done in time to start on my other projects that have a bit of a deadline.  I haven't quite mastered the idea of working on multiple projects at once!

I was able to head down to the beach which was nice.  I always like to go down there a couple times a year.  The salty air just does something to you.  I'm definitely not one to just sit out in the sun, but I can certainly take the time to enjoy the vastness of the ocean and all that the Jersey Shore has to offer!

Current Knitting Project

So, as it stands I have five projects that I need to get done before Christmas.  Three projects are Christmas presents and two aren't.  Three projects are blankets, one is a scarf and one is a hat.  I'm probably about halfway through my first blanket and I'm hoping to have this one done by Labor Day.  If that happens, I'll be able to hopefully get my second blanket done before October 1, and then it will be Christmas projects for the rest of the year.

So that's where we are.  I think I should be able to stay on track.  My plan is to really try to work on a couple projects at a time once I'm done with my first two blankets.  I think I can get the scarf and hat done in a weekend (not like how I thought I could get my blankets done in a weekend).  I will say that it might pose a slight challenge.  The scarf I want to do in Fisherman's Rib stitch since I'm making it for my brother and the yarn is a bit more masculine.  It doesn't seem like a difficult stitch but just getting used to the rhythm of the stitch might take time.  I also have never actually finished a hat before and I'm planning on making a slouchy beanie so we'll see how all of this goes.

It'll also be helpful once I finish this current blanket because I can start taking my knitting with me to work.  The blanket I'm working on is actually for someone at work so I don't want to spoil it.  I don't think I'll be able to get a tone of time in, probably just during lunch, but if I can get even a little work in at lunch I think that'll help!

I've never been much of a perfume person, but I decided when I turned 30 that I should be.  I got one of the Sephora Favorites perfume samplers that was all floral scents and ended up loving the Nirvana Black.  What's great about those sets is that they give you a coupon to redeem for a full-sized perfume from the set!

I'm not sure which eye cream should get the credit for this, which is why I put them both in there, but my eye area has firmed up so much since I started using these.  I use the Neutrogena one in the morning and the ROC one at night.  I used to have lines on the outside of my eyes and it's now totally smooth.

My hair and I have been having issues since I last got it colored in May, which is partially why I haven't gone back and gotten it done more.  My ends have been so dry, probably due to bleaching it.  Granted, it could also stand to get cut, but just the dryness has been killing me.  I got this oil in my Glossybox and I have been loving how soft it makes my hair feel.  I've been using this every day and it has been making a noticeable difference.

I also got my mascara in my Glossybox and it has been coming in handy for how hot it has been around here.  It also helps to have a waterproof mascara on my bottom lashes since my eyes water a decent amount throughout the day.  It's nice to not have those ugly smudges under my eyes.

And last for beauty-type stuff, I have been enjoying this as a pop of color in my lips!  I think it's very summery and it actually stays on a long time.  It's comfortable for me to wear and I know I don't have to worry about it wandering outside my lip line.  I have a couple of these that I like to wear in the fall/winter so I figured I'd give a more summery color a try.

As for things not beauty related, John and I have been binge watching Gilmore Girls.  I never watched it when it was out and one of my roommates in college that I disliked liked it so I just associated it with her and never wanted anything to do with it.  We randomly started watching it on one of the channels that plays it in syndication since it was starting with the first episode of the show and I just loved it.  John has loved this show for a while so he's been enjoying going back and watching it as well!

And lastly, this is something that I mentioned in my last post, but I have been LOVING the Mad Chatters podcast.  It is a Disney World centric podcast that has three amazing and funny hosts.  It is honestly such a joy to listen to.  I usually end up burning myself out on podcasts or just getting sick of the people, but this one just makes me so happy when I listen to it.  I've been going backwards and listening to the many, many episodes that I've missed.

Lastly, just as a housekeeping notice, John and I are going down to Baltimore on Friday to attend the Baltimore Comic Con!  It's pretty much the only con we go to anymore since Wizard World is just so expensive and crazy so I'm excited!  I'm going to try to get something together to get posted; however I'm thinking I should be able to do my unboxing of my Harry Potter box this week and I'm just not sure that I'm going to have good lighting to get it photographed.  If I don't have it up on Friday, it definitely will be up on Saturday.

And that's it for my August.  What about your August?  Let me know if you did anything fun and exciting this month!
